CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY
- Idaho State Police are investigating a deadly head-on crash southwest of Jerome. A 72-year-old man died at the scene, and three others were hospitalized. The crash happened last night on West Road and 500 West after one vehicle crossed the center line.
- A father and son from Schiermeier Taxidermy in Twin Falls face new charges in a major Idaho poaching case. Investigators say they hid records for 43 illegally taken animals. Tom and Ryan Schiermeier are due in court May 9.

- Twenty-four Idaho school districts will ask voters to approve over $220 million on May ballots. Locally: Filer seeks $52 million for school upgrades. Buhl asks $1.3 million, Castleford $770,000, Valley $600,000, and tiny Three Creek $45,000. Voters decide May 21.
ROADS & INFRASTRUCTURE
- The road to Shoshone Falls is now open, Twin Falls Parks and Rec announced. The nearby road to Dierkes Lake remains closed due to ongoing construction.
CIVIC ACTION & PROTESTS
- Protestors gathered at Five Points in Twin Falls Saturday as Indivisible Twin Falls rallied against the Trump administration. The event included chants, signs, and a community clothing drive to support locals facing rising costs and job loss.
COURTS & LEGAL
- A judge ruled Friday that Bryan Kohberger’s autism diagnosis can’t be mentioned to the jury unless he testifies. Kohberger faces four murder charges in the 2022 University of Idaho killings. The next court hearing is set for May 15.
BUSINESS & DEVELOPMENT
- Outdoor retailer Sierra is opening soon at Pole Line and Blue Lakes in Twin Falls. Meanwhile, In-N-Out and Raising Canes are planning locations nearby. Outback Steakhouse, however, says it’s not going anywhere and will remain at its current site.
ENERGY & UTILITIES
- Idaho Power wants to change how it compensates solar users starting June 1, with new export credit rates based on time of day. Regulators will decide on the plan next month.
POLITICS & POLICY
- Pride flags at Boise City Hall were covered with trash bags and replaced with a religious flag early Easter Sunday. Mayor Lauren McLean later restored the flags. The act follows recent flag display restrictions under House Bill 96.
MILITARY & DEFENSE
- The Idaho Air National Guard opened a new $8 million, 10,550-square-foot medical training facility at Gowen Field. The space will support the 124th Fighter Wing’s medical readiness.
SPORTS – BASEBALL
- Plenty of high school baseball action over the weekend!
North Star Charter swept Lighthouse Christian 15–0 and 18–4. North Star no-hit the Lions in Game 1. Karsten Sweesy led Lighthouse with two hits in Game 2.
Highland shut out Canyon Ridge 15–0, then won 12–1. Kohyn Barnes scored Canyon Ridge’s only run.
South Fremont edged Filer 3–1, then took Game 2, 10–1. Filer’s Wyatt Blass and Westley Billington each scored on errors.
Firth rolled past Declo 17–0. Challis-Mackay walked off Wendell 2–1 in the seventh. Wendell’s Deegan Prince had two hits and an RBI.
SPORTS – SOFTBALL
- Wood River dropped both games to Pocatello, 11–8 and 12–8. Makinzie Nelson hit a solo homer in Game 1. Paityn Nelson had three hits in Game 2. Wood River now sits at 7–11.
- Buhl swept South Fremont, 5–3 and 10–9. Adalyn Pearson struck out 10 in Game 1. Meghan Blacker fanned 14 in Game 2. The Indians improve to 8–9.
- Cole Valley Christian topped Gooding 18–7 and 10–3. Mady Morris homered in Game 1. Kaylee Silver struck out 10 in Game 2.
COMMUNITY & EVENTS
- Gooding is gearing up for the 100th anniversary of its nationally ranked rodeo this August. Upgrades include 125 new seats, a 16-seat party box, and sponsor jumbotrons. Fair manager Don Gills calls it Idaho’s biggest event in a small town—and it’s still growing.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
- Boise State’s offense topped the defense 45–27 in Saturday’s Spring Game. Malik Sherrod broke loose for a 65-yard TD, Dylan Riley added two more, and QBs Zeke Martinez and Kaleb Annett each scored. The Broncos open August 28 at South Florida.
COLLEGE BASEBALL & SOFTBALL
- No. 24 College of Southern Idaho swept Snow College 12–1 and 14–6 Saturday, clinching hosting rights for Region 18 and a share of the Scenic West title. CSI hit eight home runs, led by Lily Heitz and Ava Howell.
- CSI Baseball split with USU Eastern, losing 4–2 before winning 11–1. Mack Evans went 6-for-6 with a homer and four RBI. Bryce Intagliata earned the win in Game 2. CSI hosts Salt Lake next weekend.
