Protest for Immigrant Rights Continues in Magic Valley

For the second weekend in a row, protesters in the Magic Valley rallied for immigrant rights. The march took place yesterday afternoon on the bridge in Burley. Idaho’s agricultural industry heavily relies on immigrant labor, and demonstrators emphasized their contributions. Meanwhile, ICE detained an unspecified number of immigrants in the Sun Valley/Hailey area on Saturday.

Idaho Immigration Bill Moves Forward

A bill to regulate unauthorized immigration in Idaho is advancing to the House floor. House Bill 83, which would create a new crime called “illegal entry,” passed the House State Affairs Committee. A first offense would be a misdemeanor, while a second would be a felony.

Motorhome Crashes Through I-84 Fence in Jerome

Police and rescue crews responded Saturday afternoon after a motorhome crashed through a freeway fence near Exit 165 on I-84 in Jerome. The motorhome, towing a trailer with a Jeep, came to rest partially in a canal bed near the Jerome bus barn. The road was blocked for several hours, but no serious injuries were reported.

Soup Barcode Scam Lands Idaho Man in Jail

An Idaho man’s theft scheme involving a literal crime ring and a soup barcode just landed him in the can. Caldwell police say 32-year-old Dylan Rockwell used a ring with a hidden barcode for tomato soup to steal pricey Walmart items. He was caught after swiping a $300 grill and now faces felony burglary charges.

40-Foot Avalanche Closes SH-21

The Idaho Transportation Department is working to reopen SH-21 after a 40-foot-wide avalanche. ITD says the highway remains closed, but crews aim to reopen it by this afternoon or tomorrow.

Jerome Man Airlifted After Fiery Crash

Idaho State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred last night on westbound Highway 25 near milepost 14, east of Jerome. A 24-year-old Jerome man driving a 2017 Ford Fusion failed to negotiate a curve, struck an embankment, overturned into a shop, and caught fire. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to a hospital.

Lawmakers Warned About Invasive Species Risk

Idaho must address out-of-state boat traffic to prevent invasive species, Idaho Agriculture Director Chanel Tewalt told lawmakers. She updated them on efforts to eliminate quagga mussels in the Snake River, which have cost the state millions. Tewalt stressed the need for better enforcement.

  • 🏀 Glenns Ferry vs. Lighthouse Christian – Tonight at 7:30 p.m., the Glenns Ferry Pilots take on the Lighthouse Christian Lions. Both teams are looking for redemption after tough losses. Glenns Ferry fell to Carey 51-46 last Tuesday, while Lighthouse Christian is on a 16-game losing streak after a 76-31 defeat to Valley. The Pilots beat the Lions 74-37 in January.

CSI Basketball

  • Men’s Team – No. 20 College of Southern Idaho fell to North Idaho 108-81 on Saturday. Jalen Lyn led CSI with 21 points. CSI (19-6) hosts Salt Lake on Wednesday and Colorado Northwestern on Saturday.
  • Women’s Team – No. 21 CSI fell to North Idaho 66-61 on Saturday. CSI tied the game late, but North Idaho answered with a crucial 3-pointer. CSI (18-7) will host Salt Lake on Wednesday and Colorado Northwestern on Saturday.

Idaho College Basketball

  • Men’s Basketball – Idaho won a hard-fought 78-76 game against Sacramento State on Saturday. Their next game is Saturday, Feb. 15, against Eastern Washington in Cheney.
  • Women’s Basketball – Idaho fell to Sacramento State 56-53. The Vandals, now 16-7, struggled with 24 turnovers and will face Eastern Washington next.
  • Idaho State Men’s Basketball – The Bengals secured a dramatic 72-67 win over Weber State on Saturday. Now 11-11 (6-5 in Big Sky play), Idaho State will play Montana on Thursday.

Idaho ski resorts are celebrating fresh powder after a big winter storm:

  • 🎿 Bogus Basin – 43 inches of new snow after a 21-day dry spell; open until 10 p.m.
  • ❄ Brundage – 200 inches for the season, with 45 inches this week.
  • 🏔 Tamarack – 55 inches from the latest storm.
  • ⛷ Sun Valley – Over 40 inches of fresh powder.
  • 🌨 Soldier Mountain – 33 inches in the past six days.

Twin Falls Police Search for Stolen Softball Tractor

Twin Falls Police are searching for the person who stole the high school softball team’s tractor. The equipment went missing between Jan. 23 and Jan. 28 after someone broke into the team’s shed. The district is working on a replacement while police investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Twin Falls PD.
