The Filer School District is proposing a $52 million bond to build a new middle school and expand career and technical programs. If passed, it would raise property taxes by about $64 a month. Voters will decide on May 20, and a two-thirds majority is needed for approval.

FIRES & EMERGENCIES
A fuel truck caught fire near 700 East and 800 North in Minidoka County yesterday afternoon. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze, and no injuries were reported. Fuel was safely offloaded to other trucks.
A fire destroyed the interior of a historic building in Meadows on Monday, closing Highway 55 for several hours. The cause is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Idaho prosecutors are asking a judge to deny Bryan Kohberger’s request to give his family priority seating at his murder trial. They argue his family may be called as witnesses and do not have the same legal standing to attend as the victims’ families.
POLITICS & GOVERNMENT
Governor Brad Little praised President Trump’s nomination of Idaho’s Alex Adams to a top role at the Department of Health and Human Services. Adams, a former state budget chief and health director, is credited with transforming Idaho’s child welfare system.
An Idaho legislative committee is asking the state Labor Department to study the impact of illegal immigration and the use of E-Verify to check workers’ legal status. Lawmakers are also considering fines for employers who hire unauthorized workers.
Changes may be coming to Idaho’s urban renewal laws. A House committee advanced a bill aimed at helping fire districts retain tax revenue and supporting industrial expansion, like the Chobani facility in Twin Falls. Critics argue the bill is being rushed and could disrupt long-term development projects.
The Idaho House passed a resolution declaring the period from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day as “Traditional Family Values Month,” celebrating two-parent households with biological children. Critics, including House Minority Leader Ilana Rubel, called the resolution exclusionary and outdated. It passed by a vote of 60 to 8.

- In 5A play, Vallivue beat Minico in both games, 12-5 and 10-8, despite strong efforts from Dominic Garza and Jase Murphy.
- Burley edged out Elko 7-6, thanks to a four-run fifth inning and a clutch triple by Jacoby Roe.
The College of Idaho Yotes are national champs again! They crushed Oklahoma Baptist 93-65 to win their second NAIA basketball title in three years, finishing the season on a 25-game win streak.
CSI’s Lily Heitz was named Scenic West Player of the Week after going 6-for-6 with two homers and eight RBIs in a sweep of Treasure Valley. The Golden Eagles head to Utah this weekend to face USU Eastern.
CSI Rodeo had a strong performance at the Snow College Rodeo. Christian Bolli won Saddle Bronc, while the men’s team placed 5th and the women’s team 8th. They compete next at Colorado Mesa, April 11–12.
Boise State’s Makenzi Butt was ranked No. 2 on Softball America’s Freshman Power Rankings for mid-major schools. She leads the Mountain West in slugging and ranks in the top 10 nationally in RBIs and home runs.
The Idaho Vandals kicked off spring football under new head coach Thomas Ford. Ford praised the team’s energy and leadership, with Eli Cummings earning Day One honors. The team welcomed 11 new transfers and continues practice tomorrow.
Idaho State softball fell 8-0 to Nevada in five innings on Tuesday, managing just one hit. The Bengals open Big Sky play Friday with a series at Sacramento State.
