STATEWIDE IDAHO RACES
Key races have been called across Idaho.
Governor Brad Little secured the Republican nomination for governor, while Terri Pickens won the Democratic nomination.
Incumbent Jim Risch won the Republican U.S. Senate primary and will face Democrat David Roth in November.
In Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District, Republican Congressman Mike Simpson also secured his party’s nomination and will face Democrat Ellie Gildbreath this fall.
SCHOOL LEVIES AND BONDS
Idaho voters approved several school supplemental levies, while every school bond and plant facilities levy on the ballot failed statewide.
Cassia, Filer, Glenns Ferry, Minidoka, Richfield, Shoshone, and Wendell school districts all passed supplemental levies to help fund staff salaries, student programs, athletics, transportation, and school operations.
Meanwhile, Kimberly voters rejected both a 57-point-8-million-dollar bond and a 5-million-dollar plant facilities levy.
Statewide, school districts asked voters for more than 183 million dollars in funding.
GOODING FIRE
Fire crews from multiple agencies responded to a brush and structure fire near Gooding yesterday afternoon.
Officials say the fire started while workers were burning weeds during asphalt prep.
One building was destroyed.
THIRD SNAKE RIVER CROSSING
The Idaho Transportation Board has approved nearly 5 million dollars more for planning the proposed third Snake River crossing in the Magic Valley.
Transportation officials say the funding keeps the environmental study moving forward as leaders work to address growing traffic and safety concerns on the Perrine Bridge corridor.
SPORTS
TWIN FALLS HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS COURTS
As students head into summer break, Twin Falls School District is kicking off major upgrades to the Twin Falls High School tennis courts.
The 700-thousand-dollar project will replace the aging courts with a longer-lasting post-tension concrete system expected to last up to 50 years.
Construction is expected to take four to eight weeks, and the courts will continue to be available for community use when school programs aren’t using them.
CSI SOFTBALL HEADS TO NATIONALS
The College of Southern Idaho softball team is headed back to nationals for the fifth straight year.
The 13th-seeded Golden Eagles will take on Dodge City Community College in the first round of the NJCAA National Tournament Monday morning in Oxford, Alabama.
CSI coaches say the team’s deep pitching staff will be a key advantage heading into the tournament.
VANDAL ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
The University of Idaho has unveiled a new interactive digital display for the Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame inside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome.
Fans can now explore more than 130 years of Vandal sports history, including past champions, facilities, and Hall of Fame inductees, both in person and online.
