CANYON FALL — 18-YEAR-OLD DIES NEAR VISITOR CENTER
An 18-year-old man died after falling roughly 150 feet while climbing canyon rocks near the Twin Falls Visitor Center just after 6 yesterday morning. The Sheriff’s Office says he was with five others when he slipped and fell. Officials are urging people to stay on designated trails unless they’re experienced climbers with proper gear.
HEAT DEATHS — THREE IDAHOANS DIE FROM COMPLICATIONS
Three Idahoans over the age of 55 have died from heat-related complications. State health officials announced the deaths yesterday, the first reported in Idaho this year. All three lived in different southern Idaho communities. Officials are urging everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and watch for signs of heat illness.
MEASLES — IDAHO REPORTS 10 CASES
Idaho has reported 10 measles cases so far this year, as cases nationwide reach a 35-year high. Health officials say outbreaks in neighboring Utah and Wyoming are raising concerns ahead of the new school year, especially as Idaho’s vaccination rates continue to decline.
TRAIL CREEK ROAD — MUDSLIDES AND WASHOUTS
Drivers are being urged to use caution on Trail Creek Road this morning after several mudslides overnight on the Blaine County side. The Sheriff’s Office says multiple washouts left up to five inches of mud on parts of the road. Road crews are assessing conditions, and drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route.
OPPORTUNITY ZONES — TWIN FALLS, BURLEY AND JEROME RECOMMENDED
Twin Falls is among the Idaho communities recommended for the next round of federal Opportunity Zones. The proposed Twin Falls zone includes downtown, Main Avenue and Shoshone Street, while Burley and Jerome also made the recommendations. The program offers tax incentives aimed at attracting investment, housing and economic development. Governor Brad Little will make the final selections by September 28th.
ICE FLIGHTS — WOMAN DOCUMENTS DETAINEE TRANSFERS
A Twin Falls woman says she’s documenting ICE detainee flights leaving Magic Valley Regional Airport twice a week. Shelly McDaniel says she’s counted 442 detainees since May. City officials say Homeland Security has operated flights from the airport since at least the 1990s. Yesterday, a total of 15 people boarded an ICE-chartered jet from the airport.
LICENSE PLATE CAMERAS — TORT CLAIMS FILED
Twin Falls and Idaho Falls are facing tort claims over their use of Flock license plate cameras. The claims allege captured plate data was used in ways that violate Idaho privacy law. Idaho Falls has voted to amend its Flock contract, while Twin Falls is considering changes and has already disabled nationwide access to its camera data.
CALDWELL MURDER CASE — NEW DETAILS RELEASED
New court documents reveal more details in the murder case against 18-year-old Alissa Huerta of Caldwell. Nampa Police say video shows Huerta’s car striking and running over 19-year-old Jade Ramirez following a planned fight Sunday morning. Investigators also recovered a deleted recording in which Huerta discussed running Ramirez over.

CENTENNIAL PARK — MOTORIZED BOAT RAMP CLOSED
A heads-up for boaters heading to Centennial Park. The motorized boat launch ramp is closing temporarily beginning today at 7 a.m. because of possible damage to the ramp. Twin Falls County says the closure will remain in place until further notice while crews evaluate the damage and determine what repairs are needed. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and other non-motorized watercraft can still use the park as normal. The county will announce when the boat ramp is ready to reopen.
TWIN FALLS HIGH SCHOOL — TRAINING ROOM HONORS ALLYN REYNOLDS
Twin Falls High School is honoring a longtime Bruin by renaming its athletic training room after Allyn Reynolds. Reynolds served as the school’s athletic trainer from 1986 until retiring in 2020, spending more than three decades caring for Bruin athletes. Friends and family gathered for the dedication of the new Allyn Reynolds Athletic Training Room. Reynolds says the recognition is overwhelming after spending his career working behind the scenes but says it means a lot.
CSI BASKETBALL — REGGIE LARSEN JOINS GOLDEN EAGLES
The CSI men’s basketball team is adding Idaho standout Reggie Larsen to its 2026-27 roster. The six-foot-five guard spent last season at Salt Lake Community College after starring at Preston High School, where he averaged nearly 19 points per game and was named the 2025 Idaho Statesman 5A Player of the Year. Larsen says playing for CSI has been a longtime goal, and now he hopes to help the Golden Eagles get back to Hutchinson and compete for a national championship.
BOISE STATE SOFTBALL — TWO PITCHERS ADDED
Boise State softball is adding two right-handed pitchers for the 2027 season. Tori Dahnke joins the Broncos from Crosby, Texas, where she earned district Pitcher of the Year honors, while Abby Edwards comes from Snohomish, Washington, after recording nearly 700 strikeouts in high school. The additions come as Boise State prepares for its first softball season in the Pac-12.
IDAHO STATE FOOTBALL — FALL CAMP CONTINUES
Idaho State football is back at work, completing its second practice of fall camp yesterday inside the Dome. Special teams have been an early focus after the Bengals finished number one in the nation in net punting last season. Idaho State also has three Stats Perform preseason All-Americans, including first-team offensive lineman Stryker Rashid, while running back Dason Brooks is on the Walter Payton Award watchlist. The Bengals open the season August 29th at home against VMI.
