ECONOMY
Gas prices are holding steady as Idahoans hit the road for Labor Day. This morning the state average for regular is $3.48 a gallon—two cents less than last week and 12 cents cheaper than a year ago. Nationally, drivers are paying $3.21. AAA says travelers will see busy roads and airports, with Seattle, Anaheim, and Las Vegas among the top holiday destinations.
SCAMS & SAFETY
Idaho State Police are warning of a new phone scam. Callers are spoofing ISP dispatch numbers, claiming a loved one is in distress and asking for personal details while playing sounds of crying in the background. Officials stress these calls are not from ISP—hang up, don’t share information, and report suspicious calls to law enforcement.
ENERGY & RESEARCH
Idaho State University and Idaho National Laboratory have rededicated the Center for Advanced Energy Studies as the Critical Materials and Energy Systems Innovation Center. The partnership will accelerate research into uranium, lithium, and other critical materials vital for nuclear fuels, energy storage, and national security.
LOCAL INCIDENT
A Mountain Home family is shaken after a rock from chip sealing on Highway 67 shattered their car window, covering their 5-month-old daughter with glass. A sunshade blocked the impact, sparing her from serious injury. Connor Widmer says he’s grateful his baby, Athena, escaped with only minor scratches.
CRIME & VANDALISM
Buhl Police are investigating a string of vandalism cases over the past week. The city’s veterans memorial wall at Eastman Park was hit again yesterday, and graffiti damaged Reed Grain. Officers urge residents to check security or Ring cameras for suspicious activity and report it to police immediately.
