🔥 FIRES & EMERGENCIES

Two structural fires kept Magic Valley crews busy over the weekend. A blaze at Highway 30 Garage in Filer Sunday night caused major damage but was contained thanks to the concrete structure. A separate fire destroyed the interior of a vacant fish hatchery once used by CSI and now owned by the City of Twin Falls. The blaze broke out Saturday, a day after trespassers were reported. Investigators say damage may prevent finding the cause.

Tragedy in Garden Valley. Boise County officials confirm a 15-year-old died in a house fire Sunday night. Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed after a nearby propane tank exploded.

⛽ GAS & ECONOMY

Gas prices in Twin Falls have dropped slightly to $3.33 a gallon, as crude oil hits lows not seen since 2021. AAA says Idaho’s statewide average is $3.29, with demand expected to rise heading into Memorial Day.

🚨 CRIME & POLICE

The Twin Falls Police Department is warning residents about a fake social media post claiming an officer is missing. Officials say it’s a scam—everyone is safe. They urge the public not to share or interact with the post. Always verify information through official sources.

A Twin Falls man is facing three felony counts of lewd conduct with a child under 16. Police say 28-year-old Charles Hardin Jr. repeatedly abused the girl between 2019 and 2024. He denies the allegations. His bond is set at $250,000, with a court hearing on May 16.

⚖ LAW & LEGISLATION

A new Idaho law meant to clarify public defender roles could end the guaranteed right to an attorney in cases that may permanently sever parental rights. Critics warn Senate Bill 1181’s vague language could make Idaho one of only four states without that guarantee. Lawmakers insist the change only applies to privately filed cases, with counsel still possible through a court indigency test.

🧼 CITY INITIATIVES

Clogged drains are the top insurance claim in Twin Falls. To tackle the issue, the city is launching a new FOG program—fats, oils, and grease. Phase one includes public outreach, especially in Old Town where aging pipes are most at risk.

🗳 ELECTIONS

Early voting is now open for the May 20th Consolidated Election. In Twin Falls County, cast your ballot weekdays from 8 to 5 at the County Building second floor, Auditor/Recorder’s office. School bonds and highway issues may be on the ballot.
