TWIN FALLS MASS SHOOTING

Authorities now confirm three people were killed and seven others wounded in Saturday’s mass shooting at Twin Falls’ new In-N-Out Burger. Police say 24-year-old Chad Williams acted alone, and credit an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper and an armed citizen with preventing even more casualties by confronting the gunman.

IDAHO NATIONAL GUARD

The Idaho Army National Guard has redesignated its Jerome-based Brigade Support Battalion as the 145th Light Support Battalion. Lieutenant Colonel Adam Sanchez officially took command during a ceremony Saturday at the College of Southern Idaho.

Idaho officials have confirmed that nearly 100 Idaho National Guard members have been deployed to Washington, D.C., since February under a federal mission. The deployment wasn’t announced publicly at the time, with Guard officials citing operational security. The confirmation comes after a D.C. woman filed a $3 million legal claim involving Idaho Guardsmen.

TRUMP ACCOUNTS

A new savings program signed by President Donald J. Trump offers eligible children a $1,000 federal contribution into a new “Trump Account.” Children born between 2025 and 2028 qualify, with families able to add up to $5,000 a year toward long-term savings.

TARTAR FIRE

Evacuations remain in effect near Weiser as the Tartar Fire has grown to nearly 95,000 acres. More than 500 firefighters are on the scene, and containment has dropped to 17 percent as crews work to protect homes and strengthen fire lines.

IDAHO TRANSPARENCY MONTH

August is now Idaho Transparency Month. State Controller Brandon Woolf says the month will highlight online tools that let residents track government spending and public meetings while encouraging greater openness in state government.

PUBLIC CAMPING BAN

One year after Idaho’s public camping ban took effect, Boise police issued more than 100 camping citations, while Meridian has issued just three warnings. Critics say the law pushes homeless residents farther from services, while supporters argue it helps improve public safety.

FATAL I-84 CRASH

A 20-year-old Meridian man has died after a three-vehicle crash Sunday on Interstate 84 in Ada County. Idaho State Police say the motorcyclist suffered critical injuries after colliding with a minivan and pickup.

KIMBERLY FOOTBALL

With the high school football season just around the corner, Kimberly’s Titus Osterman is getting statewide recognition. IdahoSports.com has named the University of Washington commit one of Idaho’s top 10 linebackers heading into 2026. The 6-foot-4 standout racked up 103 tackles and blocked two kicks last season. Bulldogs head coach Joe Dille says Osterman’s work ethic and competitive mindset are what set him apart. Kimberly opens the season August 28th on the road at Fruitland.

MAGIC VALLEY WRESTLING

Two Magic Valley wrestlers are finishing the offseason among the nation’s best. USA Wrestling’s final high school girls rankings have Jerome’s Olivia Bezdicek ranked sixth nationally at 130 pounds after winning her third straight state title and building an incredible 349 career victories. Buhl’s Ali Svancara is ranked 12th in the nation at 115 pounds after an 87-win season. Both wrestlers will be among Idaho’s top title contenders again this year.

CSI MEN’S BASKETBALL

The College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team has added one of Utah’s top point guards. Head coach Jeff Reinert has signed Carlo Mulford from Herriman High School for the 2026-27 season. Mulford leaves as his school’s all-time leader in points, assists, steals, and three-pointers, while leading Herriman to back-to-back region championships. Reinert says Mulford’s basketball IQ, toughness, and leadership make him an outstanding fit as the Golden Eagles prepare for another run at the Scenic West Athletic Conference title.

BOISE STATE SOCCER

Boise State sophomore goalkeeper Ava de Leest is getting national attention ahead of the 2026 soccer season. The Fullerton, California native is one of just 20 goalkeepers in the country named to the United Soccer Coaches watch list, and the only Pac-12 goalie recognized. De Leest earned Mountain West Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Year honors as a freshman after posting six shutouts. The Broncos open the season August 12th at home against CSUN.

BOISE STATE BUD LIGHT FUNDRAISER

Boise State fans can now show their Bronco pride with limited-edition Bud Light cans available across Idaho and at Albertsons Stadium this season. Even better, from now through October 1st, a portion of every Bud Light sale will benefit Folds of Honor, helping provide scholarships for the families of fallen or disabled military members and first responders.

IDAHO STATE FOOTBALL

Idaho State wrapped up the first week of fall football camp Saturday with its most physical practice yet. Head coach Cody Hawkins says the defense is ahead of the offense right now, but both sides are making steady progress as the pads come on. Hawkins also praised kicker Mason Lindberg after drilling a pair of long field goals late in practice. The Bengals open Week Two of camp today as they continue preparing for their August 29th season opener against VMI in the ICCU Dome.

UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO ACADEMICS

The University of Idaho continues to shine in the classroom. For the third straight year, the Vandals had two Big Sky academic champion teams, with men’s golf posting a conference-best 3.77 GPA and volleyball earning the top spot with a 3.76 GPA. The new academic year gets underway later this month.

ALBERTSONS STADIUM UPGRADES

Boise State is adding another major upgrade to Albertsons Stadium. More than 450 feet of new LED ribbon boards have been installed to enhance the game-day experience with live stats, crowd prompts, and interactive graphics. Fans got an early look during Banana Ball, and the displays will debut for football when the Broncos host Memphis on September 12th. The project is part of Boise State’s continued investment as it prepares for its move to the Pac-12.
