🚓 Crime & Public Safety

🚔 A pickup truck in the Costco parking lot is part of an ongoing Magic Valley Critical Incident Task Force investigation this morning.

A midnight pursuit ended with a PIT maneuver on U.S. 93, and authorities haven’t confirmed if the two incidents are connected.

⚖ A rape trial for former Filer teacher Jacob Mishler ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a verdict. Mishler denied the allegations on the stand, and a scheduling hearing later this month will decide if the case will be retried.

🦇 In Minidoka County, a bat has tested positive for rabies—the first confirmed local case this year. Health officials urge residents to avoid contact with bats and ensure pets are vaccinated.

🚗 In Twin Falls, a moose hit by a car on Washington Street was euthanized due to its injuries, and the driver fled the scene. Idaho Fish and Game reminds drivers to report wildlife collisions and drive cautiously, especially at dawn and dusk.

🔫 In Gooding County, 32-year-old Cristian Ramirez Delgado is charged with aggravated assault after allegedly firing multiple shots at a man’s vehicle near Wendell on Monday. No one was injured. Delgado is being held on $250,000 bond, with a preliminary hearing set for August 14.

🏛 Government & Economy

🤝 Governor Brad Little welcomed U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer to Idaho yesterday to spotlight the success of Idaho LAUNCH, a program that has boosted student enrollment and workforce training. The Secretary toured Micron and praised Idaho’s investment in future workers.

🌾 The USDA has designated Cassia, Kootenai, Owyhee, and Twin Falls counties as primary natural disaster areas due to severe drought, making emergency loans available to impacted farmers. Several other counties, including Ada, Blaine, Canyon, Elmore, Gooding, Jerome, Minidoka, Oneida, and Power, are also eligible. The application deadline is March 24, 2026.

💰 Twin Falls’ proposed 2026 budget would raise property taxes, sewer, and sanitation rates, costing the average homeowner about $9 more per month. The $95 million plan adds six new staff and funds capital projects, with a final vote set for August 25.

⚽ The College of Southern Idaho women’s soccer team is entering its second season after a 5-8-3 debut, returning 12 players—including keeper Kirstine Kent and Twin Falls native Jayva Hicks—while adding strong freshmen talent. CSI will host its Black and Gold scrimmage Saturday and open the season August 29 at home against Casper College.
